Despite representing himself during the trial and claiming self-defense, a 19-year-old will spend the rest of his life in prison for the January murder of another teen.
Mitchell Savickas, 19, said he fatally shot 17-year-old Isaiah Blue because he felt like he would be killed at any moment. Savickas told the jury he acted in self-defense, while fearing for his life, but also admitted he gunned down the teen while he held his hands in the air. Savickas also admitted that he never saw Blue or any of his friends with a weapon. Prosecutors argued that Savickas simply hunted down Blue to settle an ongoing beef.
In the end, after deliberating less than 30 minutes, the jury found Savickas guilty of first-degree felony murder, armed robbery and felony use of a firearm.
