An 18-year-old man is recovering from a gunshot wound after he was injured while stealing a car in Phoenix over the weekend.
The teen suspect took off with the vehicle late Saturday night, but the car owner’s brother followed him in another vehicle. Both were armed and the brother told police he opened fire after the suspect first aimed his gun at him. A shootout ensued, which spanned across several blocks and ended at a city park.
The suspect was shot a single time during the shootout, then taken to the hospital to receive medical treatment for a non-life-threatening wound.
Despite multiple cars being hit in the shootout, no other injuries were reported.
The suspect is facing charges of aggravated assault and stealing a vehicle. Thus far, no charges have been filed against the brother, who is said to be fully cooperating with the investigation.
