Steyr Arms will release a long rail model of the company’s popular AUG A3 M1 bullpup platform in response to overwhelming customer requests.

The company announced Wednesday that the longer variant is now in full production.

Boasting two more slots than the original AUG A3 SA, the long rail model comes with a total of 25 numbered slots. The longer top rail provides a significant increase in surface area for optics and back-up iron sights, extending a full 5.5 inches back from the receiver. Its placement allows for better overall positioning of a rear iron sight.

The long rail is outfitted with lightening cuts along both sides and features milled areas underneath to reduce weight. Overall the new AUG A3 Long Rail tips scales at 7.8 pounds. Available in black, mud, OD green or white, the AUG A3 Long Rail ships with either a standard AUG stock or the NATO-style. Both stocks accept STANAG magazines. A 30-round translucent, polymer magazine is included with each rifle.

Chambered in 5.56 NATO/.223 Rem, the AUG A3 long rail retails for a $2,099; however, consumers can purchase just the rail for $145.
