An Indiana woman who ran a daycare out of her home in Merrillville is now behind bars after authorities discovered loaded guns, ammunition, daggers, and alcohol all within reach of the 15 kids who were in the woman’s care.
Police went to Tender Loving Spirits Child Care after receiving a call about an injured child, but initially were unable to get into the home. An officer tried to climb into the house through an open window where he met the owner of the home, Tawana Cole.
Once inside, officers found the weapons and other items, as well as a 4-year-old boy bleeding from a head injury. Three children were also missing from the daycare, but were later found safe. It’s unclear how the boy was injured, but he is expected to be okay.
Cole was arrested on multiple felony counts.
