A 21-year-old man who accidentally killed his girlfriend when he shot himself has been indicted on second-degree murder charges, Anchorage authorities said.
Authorities say Victor Sibson shot himself in the head, but the bullet passed through his skull and hit his girlfriend, 22-year-old Brittany-Mae Haag. Both Sibson and Haag were taken to the hospital following a call to 911. Sibson survived; Haag did not.
Sibson turned himself in to authorities Friday. While in court Sunday, Sibson told the judge he could not afford the $250,000 bail he was given. “Could we figure out if I’m guilty or not today?” Sibson asked the judge, who entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
If convicted, Sibson could face up to 99 years in prison.
