Ontario Provincial Police choose Glock to replace Sig Sauer pistols

The Ontario Provincial Police has chosen Glock for its next service pistol to replace the department’s current Sig Sauer pistol.

According to a press release, Glock’s Canadian enforcement distributor, Rampart Corp, will fulfill the contract.

“We are excited to be working with the OPP, which is one of Canada’s premier law enforcement agencies, and look forward to a long relationship with it,” said James Cassells, Glock Canadian sales manager.

With 6,200 uniformed officers, 3,100 civilian employees, and 800 Auxiliary officers, the OPP is one of the largest police agencies in North America and is responsible for enforcing the law in over one million square kilometers in the Province of Ontario.

The OPP also patrols over 126,000 kilometers of provincial roadways and conducts policing activities in more than 320 municipalities in Ontario. Its many specialized units include search and rescue, drug enforcement, emergency response, aviation, and canine.
