A woman has claimed self-defense when she opened fire during a confrontation with two other women Thursday night outside of a Richmond apartment complex.
The incident unfolded around 10:40 p.m. and, according to reports, 33-year-old Karen Turner went to the apartment complex to confront a pregnant woman about rumors that Turner’s boyfriend was the father of her unborn baby.
Witnesses say they heard arguing between women followed by gunshots. When police arrived, they found Turner and a second woman had been shot. Turner was found in her car and pronounced dead at the scene. The second woman had been shot in the leg and was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening. There were no reports of the pregnant woman, whose name was not released, being injured.
Reports indicate Turner was armed, but authorities have not confirmed that detail. Furthermore, Turner’s family said she was a well-known stylist and budding entrepreneur, and such behavior would have been out of character for her.
The investigation is ongoing, but no charges have been filed at this time.
