For those who have never been deer hunting before it can prove a very unique experience. But don’t think for one minute that going hunting for deer is simple. There are many different factors that need to be taken into consideration before you go off hunting in the woods or open land for these beautiful creatures. Plus you need to make sure that you have planned everything out first.

So in order to help ensure that you have a truly wonderful time hunting for deer then we offer some tips below you may find useful.

Tip 1 – You need to make sure that you have all the right permits in place before you go hunting. So you need to contact the DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation) or DNR (Department of Natural Resources) first. The easiest way of doing this is by visiting their websites. Here you will not only find a list of the permits required for hunting deer but also how to apply for them.

Tip 2- You must find out exactly what the laws are with regards to the owning of firearms as the laws in each state vary greatly. The best way of determining what these laws are is to visit your local law enforcement office. As well as knowing about the laws with regards to the carrying of weapons your local law enforcement office will be able to tell you the local hunting laws. These are the ones that pertain to the type of clothing you wear, the weapon you use to shoot the deer and of course how many deer you are entitled to hunt.

Tip 3 – It is important that when you go deer hunting that not only do you take the right weapon and the right ammunition but also wear the right sort of clothing. It is a good idea to also invest money in purchasing clothing specifically designed for wearing when hunting such as a pair of boots that are not only waterproof but also insulated.  So these will not only help to keep your feet warm but also dry. Another piece of clothing that you must invest in is a visible jacket. This will help to make you easily visible to others who are also out hunting for deer when you are. Quite a few hunters get shot accidentally because they have chosen to wear clothing that causes them to blend in with their surroundings.

Tip 4 - When it comes to setting up for a shot make sure that you aim for the relevant area of the deer that provides you with a clean clear shot of it. You should be looking at aiming to shoot the deer behind the front leg around 6 inches up from the base of its chest. If you don’t aim for this area there is a risk that you will only inflict a small injury to the deer that will cause it to then run off and its death may be a slow and agonizing one. If this does occur when out deer hunting make sure that you immediately take off after the animal following the trail of blood and kill it humanely.
