Before investing money and purchasing any type of weapon it is important that you learn more about the gun laws in the state or country where you live. As you will soon discover these can vary greatly from one state and one country to another. However in this particular article we are going to be taking a closer look the kinds of gun laws now in place in the USA.
Law 1 – Child Access Prevention
Today a lot of states in the USA have now passed a law where it is a crime if you leave a loaded weapon in a place where it can easily be accessed by a child (minor). Today, parents who own weapons are required to keep them in a gun safe or cupboard that only they have keys to.
Law 2 – Concealed Weapon
In the USA you will find that there are around 7 states where the carrying of a concealed weapon is prohibited. In the other states however the carrying of a concealed weapon is permitted but the individual must either show a need to do so because of their work or must obtain a permit before doing so. In more than half the USA states you will find that as long as a person has no felony criminal records they can obtain a permit allowing them to carry a concealed weapon. However there is one state where no license or permit is required to carry such a weapon and that is Vermont.
Law 3 – Sale Privately To Minors
Under the federal laws in place in the USA it is illegal for a minor under the age of 18 to possess a gun. Plus it is also illegal for those under the age of 21 to be able to purchase a gun from a dealer, but in some states they can actually purchase the guns they want privately. At present there are 21 states that have brought in laws that prohibit or substantially regulate the purchasing of weapons for those under the age of 18 privately.
Law 4 – Secondary Market Sales
Today over 20 states in the USA have brought laws in that help to regulate the secondary sale market by bringing in certain registration or licensing requirements. Unfortunately of course in the states where no laws have been brought into force it is perfectly acceptable for not only minors but also criminals to obtain weapons.
Law 5 – Ban Of Assault Weapons
This law was brought into force following a number of difficult situations that occurred. The first state that was to ban the purchasing and owning of assault weapons was California in 1989. Since this ban came into place a number of other states have followed suit but the laws on the banning of owning and using assault weapons has been much more extensive especially in New Jersey, Hawaii, Maryland and Connecticut.
Above we have looked at just a few of the gun laws that have been enforced in the USA today. But a quick search online you will find several more such as the “one handgun a month” and bans being placed on the purchase of “Saturday night specials” and “junk guns”.
