Federal's been making ammo for almost a century and is the go-to brand for shooters across the country, whether they're competitors, hunters, or law enforcers. Their new line of all-copper loaded cartridges promises a level of penetration and performance never seen before from a mass-producer like Federal.

These new Vital Shok Trophy Copper cartridges are for hunting at long ranges where penetration is as important as, if not more so, than expansion. As an example, this bullet in gelatin managed almost 22 inches of penetration at 100 yards, and passing through bone.
But they are designed to expand, as well. The Trophy Copper bullets are hollowpoints, with a small polymer insert to prevent clogging and improve the ballistics by streamlining the projectile.
Federal is manufacturing 22 new loads in seventeen calibers and gauges. Well, gauge. In addition to making a 12 gauge slug, Trophy Copper ammunition will be made in the following rifle chamberings:
.25-06 Remington
.300 Winchester MagnumNo word on pricing but we don't expect this stuff to come cheap, but with a copper build we do expect it to be accurate as can possibly be from a factory-loaded cartridge that's intended for hunting, and probably a bit more accurate than a lot of entry-level target ammo, too.
Of course, if you're looking for something like this chambered for handguns, well then you'd better start reading up on this Grizzly Xtreme all-copper ammo:

Trophy Copper is nice. But that Grizzly stuff looks to have expansion not seen before. Don't do too many articles on the Grizzly ammo tho. Someone's bound to see that a .45" can expand to almost 1.5" and try to get it off the shelves. Alla black talon. If the ammo expands consistently to other calibers, that means they have a 9mm that will expand to 1.17". Lets get some penetration tests on this. |
