When we reviewed the first generation Ruger Precision Rifle, we found only one thing lacking on this long range masterpiece—a muzzle device.  After much internet searching, the large selection of custom-made brakes and modern sporting rifle add-ons from Witt Machine rose to the top.  Here’s why.

Why Witt Machine?

All of Witt’s products are custom-machined right here in America with headquarters in Fort Garland, Colorado.  Owner Ken Wittekiend served over 10 years in the Marine Corps with multiple deployments to the Middle East. A marksmanship instructor and competitive shooter, Wittekiend studied precision machining for years before launching the company we see today.

He personally guarantees quality and customer satisfaction for all his products.  Per the website, All of our products are 100% guaranteed. If you don’t like it for any reason we buy it back, including shipping, no questions asked.”

Our Witt Muzzle Rise Eliminator (MRE)

The MRE’s—not meals ready to eat—are touted to reduce recoil and eliminate muzzle rise.  Just how much, you ask?  According to the website, Witt’s muzzle brakes “provide approximately a 60% reduction in recoil and slightly more than that in muzzle rise reduction.”  As this reduction is achieved by re-routing gas and blast through the side and top ports, there is what they consider a 20% increase in perceived volume.

Witt’s MRE’s are machined from 416 stainless bar stock.  If shiny stainless is not your thing, they are available in many Cerakote colors and whether you desire a mean and gnarly look or clean and civilized, Witt has you covered. Our pair of test models both came in Graphite Black finish and matched perfectly with the factory blueing.

While we needed 5/8”-24 threads for our Ruger Precision Rifle, Witt offers custom threading and boring for about anything you can imagine.  Naturally, no gunsmithing is required to install these devices, and the company includes a crush washer for proper indexing, so nothing additional is needed.  Just thread on, line up, snug tight, and get to the range.  The MRE’s are available in AR-10 .30 caliber, AR-15 5.56/.223, and also AK-47, all starting at $89.

Our MRE’s came in simple but clean, clear bag packaging and were shipped securely and promptly.  But would they solve our initial jumpy muzzle conundrum? While we initially found our Ruger Precision Rifle in .308 to rise considerably off the target, slowing follow-up shots and not allowing us to effectively watch the shot, installing the Witt MRE all but eliminated barrel rise.

Out of curiosity, we mounted the MRE on an AR-10 to see what it would do for the more rapid fire of a semi-auto and found that it very noticeably keeps the barrel down and on target during repeated offhand firing. We tested an AR-15 version of the MRE as well, and found it a dream to shoot on our Rock River Operator.  The gun just wants to stay right on the target, and the increase in perceived noise is noticeable but not fairly minor when you’re wearing hearing protection anyways.

Other Products from Witt

Witt Machine provides a wide variety of the hottest additions for today’s modern sporting rifles.  In addition to the MRE we used, Witt offers plenty of other mods.  Their integrally suppressed uppers in both 5.56 and .300 Blackout are hard to ignore. Standard suppressors are available as well.  They custom-manufacture clamp-on brakes for just about any firearm you care to measure.  Brakes for the Mosin Nagant and SKS are also readily available. They even offer shotgun brakes and some wild looking directional muzzle brakes.  And this is worth repeating again—all of their products, even the uppers, are 100% Made in the USA.  In comparison with other companies, their prices are very competitive and value-oriented, especially given the quality.

While it may sound tricky to wax poetic about threaded muzzle devices, Witt Machine makes it easy to get more than a little excited about the possibilities.  Our experience with their functionality, quality, guarantee, and customer service was top notch. The Witt Muzzle Rise Eliminator does exactly what it’s supposed to do, and does it well.  Bookmark their website for the next time you’re in the market for modern sporting rifle accessories and hunting rifle brakes.
