The Colt SP901 is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in 7.62×51 NATO. Colt recommends for the SP901 for medium to large sized game. The SP901 is distinct for its replaceable receiver: varmint hunters can switch out the standard .308 Winchester upper receiver with a Mil-Spec Colt upper receiver chambered in .223 Rem. The SP901 is one of four civilian rifles manufactured by Colt.
The SP901 features a 16.1″ heavy barrel meant to reduce some of the felt recoil and aid accuracy. The rifle has flip-up, adjustable front sights for elevation and flip-up rear sights also adjustable for windage. When the stock is collapsed, the overall length is 34.24″. Fully extended, the rifle is 37.5″. The SP901 has ambidextrous operating controls, including the magazine release, bolt catch, and safety. The rifle is finished in matte black.
