Description

The Heckler and Koch HK416  is a select-fire rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO. Founded in 1949, HK is a German defense manufacturing company that designs and produces small arms. The HK416 was released around 2005 as a more functionally reliable replacement for the ubiquitous M4 and M16.

The HK416 uses a proprietary gas-piston operating system where gas released from the firing of an individual round cycles through a tub that pushes against a piston and then the piston drives the bolt rearward. The bolt ejects the spent casing and reloads a fresh cartridge. This system tends to require less maintenance because the gas doesn't expel inside the chamber.

Features include a cold hammer forged, meaning a machine carefully carved grooves in the bore. It is known for increased accuracy and durability. The HK416 also uses corrosion resistant magazine. It has a retractable stock, pistol grip, and folding front sight. It also has a Picatinny rails for easy mounting of optics and accessories.

The HK416 is available in four barrel lengths: 10.4", 14.5", 16.5" or 19.9".
