The Marlin Model 444 Express Long Rifle is a lever-action hunting rifle chambered in .444 Marlin. What makes the 444XLR different from the standard Model 444 is 2″–444XLR has a longer barrel.
The Model 444XLR features a 24″ stainless barrel, along with stainless lever, trigger guard plate, magazine tube and loading gate. The 444XLR features a black/grey laminated hardwood stock with pistol grip, checkering and a deluxe recoil pad. The 444XLR also employs an adjustable folding rear sight with a front sight brass bead and Wide-Scan brand hood. The barrel has undergone Marlin’s Ballard-type rifling, which carves six
deep and wide grooves that are supposed to help improve accuracy on
high-power rifles. It’s a slow process that puts almost no stress is put
on the metal.
The cartridge .444 Marlin is described as a longer .44 Mag. and preferred for hunting at a shorter range yet powerful impact, so it’ll kill larger game without destroying a lot of the meat.
Marlin recommends the Model 444XLR for hunting large game.
