The Mossberg 500 Chainsaw is a pump-action tactical shotgun chambered in 12 gauge. What makes the Chainsaw unique to other tactical 500s is that it has a pistol grip plus a “chainsaw” handle attached to the pump in replace of a stock. Mossberg says the Chainsaw is intended to be shot from the hip and the chainsaw-style grip, which wraps around the barrel, will allow the user to control muzzle flip.
The Chainsaw also features a “stand-off” barrel meaning it’s short and has rigid teeth on the muzzle, which are intended for breaching doors and whatnot. It also has a tri-rail Picatinny on both sides and beneath the pump for easy mounting of accessories.
Otherwise it has standard features such as Mossberg’s tang safety, which is located on the back of the pistol grip or where the shooter’s action hand’s thumb naturally falls, and a bead front sight.
Mossberg recommends the 500 Chainsaw for personal defense.
