The Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk is a large-frame single-action revolver chambered in .44 Mag. or .44 Special. The Super Blackhawk has the same features as the standard New Model Blackhawk, a model designed after Colt’s Peacemaker, except it’s chambered for a large magnum cartridge–that’s the difference.
Its name “New Model” is a reference to its transfer bar, which is a safety feature that allows users to carry the weapon fully loaded because the bar blocks the hammer from striking the firing pin if the weapon is dropped.
There are eight variants of the New Model Super Blackhawk that differ by finish and barrel length. It’s available in blued alloy steel or stainless steel and with a barrel length of 4.62″, 5.5″, 7.5″ and 10.5″.
The New Model Super Blackhawk is equipped with a rear sight that’s adjustable for wind and elevation, and a ramp front sight. The New Model Superhawk Standard also includes rosewood western-style grips, which has a very defined curve and is easy to grasp. Its cylinder also accepts .44 Special cartridges.
All 10.5″ barrel models feature a bull barrel. Bull barrels have little or no taper/contour and are able to withstand a high number of successive shots while also providing weight stability.
Ruger recommends the New Model Super Blackhawk for big game hunting.
