The Smith & Wesson Military & Police is a large-frame semi-automatic pistol chambered in .22 LR, 9mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. The M&P is designed with the needs of law enforcement and military in mind. 

The M&Ps features a stainless steel construction and a Zytel polymer frame, a wear-resistant material patented by Dupont. It's finished in a protective black melonite coating, which is a metallic mineral closely associated with nickel (technically, a telluride of nickel). The M&P also employs three interchangeable palm swell sizes, a Picatinny under-barrel rail for easy mounting of accessories, and a trigger safety similar to whats found on a Glock. The M&P is equipped with dovetail ramp front sights and Novak brand Lo-Mount Carry rear sights. However, Tritium night sights are optional. It is also available with a thumb safety.

S&W recommends the M&P for personal protection, home protection, or law enforcement use, and recreational or competitive shooting. The models include the M&P22, M&P9, M&P357, M&P40 and the M&P45.
