The Smith and Wesson M&P15 MOE is a semi-automatic gas-operated rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem. Gas operated feeding systems capture gases released from the firing of a round and use this energy to push the bolt rearward, thereby ejecting the spent casing and chambering a new round. Smith and Wesson is the largest manufacturer of handguns in the United States. Headquartered in Springfield, Massachusetts, the company was founded in 1852 by Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson.
The M&P15 MOE shares a number of common features with other Smith and Wesson tactical rifles, but differs in that it employs a range of Magpul brand equipment, including a Magpul rear sight, stock, and tactical handguard. The M&P15 MOE is finished in black.
The M&P15 MOE features a 30-round detachable magazine, top Picatinny rail, and an aluminum receiver. Chromed components include bolt carrier, bore, and gas key. The M&P15 MOE also employs a hard coat black anodized protective finish. The M&P15 MOE also includes a muzzle break for reduced muzzle jump and reduced felt recoil.
The M&P15 MOE is recommended by S&W for competitive, recreational, and law enforcement applications.
