Smith & Wesson M&P15A

Description

The Smith and Wesson M&P15A is a semi-automatic gas-operated rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem. Gas operated feeding systems capture gases released from the firing of a round, and use this energy to push the bolt rearward, thereby ejecting the spent casing and chambering a new round. Smith and Wesson is the largest manufacturer of handguns in the United States. Headquartered in Springfield, Massachusetts, the company was founded in 1852 by Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson.

The M&P15A shares a number of common features with other Smith and Wesson tactical rifles, but differs in that it employs a rear battle sight and a Picatinny rail.

The M&P15A features a 6-position telescoping buttstock and 30-round detachable magazine. The M&P15A also includes an aluminum receiver. Chromed components include bolt carrier, bore, and gas key. The M&P15A employs a hard coat black anodized protective finish. The M&P15A also includes a muzzle break for reduced muzzle jump and reduced felt recoil. The M&P15A also utilizes a thermo-set M4 forend handguard to protect the shooter from hot barrel components.

The M&P15A is recommended by S&W for competitive, recreational, and law enforcement applications.
