The Smith and Wesson M&P15OR is a semi-automatic, gas-operated rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem. Gas operated feeding systems capture gases released from the firing of a round, and use this energy to push the bolt rearward, thereby ejecting the spent casing and chambering a new round.
