If you are considering taking up hunting as a hobby then you must make sure that you invest wisely when it comes to purchasing a weapon. With so many different types of shotguns now available it can prove a challenge determining which weapon will be best. But it isn’t only the gun you need to take into consideration. If you want to improve the chances of you actually shooting what you aim at, then you need to invest  money in a good sight for your weapon.

Certainly with spending money on the right kind of sight for your shotgun will reduce the chances of you missing the object you are aiming at altogether. So in order to help you determine what sort of sight to purchase for use with your shotgun we offer some advice below which you may find extremely useful. However, before we offer tips on what to consider when purchasing a sights and optical devices. Let us take a brief look at what is available.

Type 1 – Open Sight

This is the kind of sight that a hunter should be using in low light conditions such as when out hunting early in the morning.  The type of sight you should be looking for is the kind that uses fiber optics that gathers light. The sight will typically have a single front bead that works in conjunction with two more beads at the rear. When using this type of sight you will find yourself being forced to keep your check in line with the three beads of the sight. The main advantage to using such a sight is that they can easily be installed on the barrels of most weapons.

Type 2 – Red Dot Sight

These types of sights can be used immediately and use a battery to power them. Unlike the open sight this one uses a single illuminated dot that one can view through the sighting tube. Unlike other sights available for fitting to shotguns, with this type you find that there is a lack of parallax which means that the red dot will present a pattern on whatever object the sight is aimed at. In fact this tends to remain even if you happen to lift the gun stock or move your cheek away from it.

Type 3 – Scope

This is the classic type of optical device one can purchase for use with a shotgun. There are many reasons why this type of sight still proves extremely popular with hunters around the world over the others we have mentioned above. First off these types of sights have very good light gathering capabilities as well as being good for magnifying objects in front of you. Plus of course these are simple to fit to your weapon.

We have shown you what types of sights are now available for use with a shotgun. However when it comes to purchasing of such items you should look for ones that don’t use a great deal of power. Plus of course the kind that is small and doesn’t weigh much but will still offer a great field of view.
