Colt
Colt is a seminal American firearms manufacturer founded in 1836 by Samuel Colt. The company is responsible for numerous civilian and military
gun designs used all over the world. It has designed and/or produced some of the most famous guns in U.S. history.
The
Single Action Army, also known as the Peacemaker, is perhaps the best known
revolver ever. The appearance of the gun has remained consistent since 1873. It was available in more than 30 different calibers. The gun was the standard American military sidearm until 1892. While Colt twice tried to discontinue the product, popular demand led them to continue bringing it back. The Colt
Walker is another famed revolver designed by Samuel Colt. It was used prominently in the Mexican-American War in the late 19th century.
During his time as a Colt employee, influential designer John Browning designed the first parallel slide
pistol, which was then adopted and used as the industry standard. The parallel slide design first debuted in the Colt
M1900 pistol and would eventually be implemented in the Colt
M1911A1. Colt was also the primary producer of the
M16 rifle for many years though they did not design it.
Colt
Defense split from Colt's Manufacturing Company in 2002. Colt Defense serves the law enforcement, military, and private security markets worldwide, while the latter serves the civilian market.
