Seller Description

Patented July 2, 1872, Colt employees Charles B. Richards and William Mason, combined their ideas for converting Colt’s percussion revolvers to self-contained metallic cartridge, breech loading arms. Originally working with the percussion arms parts already in stock, guns were converted, however as they began to run out of the cap and ball components, the company began producing new sixguns as metal cartridge arms, rather than conversions. Although the numbers produced only amounted to a few thousand specimens (around 2,100 1860 Army models and about 3,800 1851 Navy models). El Paso’s city marshal Dallas Stoudenmire packed a cut down Richards-Mason Army Colt. And John H. “Doc” Holliday packed a ’51 new-made Navy model. Today’s shooters enjoy the looks and handling capabilities of these conversion revolvers that combine the sleek lines of percussion revolvers with the convenience of self-contained cartridge sixguns. Due to the high cost and scarcity of originals, Cimarron’s Richards-Mason conversions are ideal for Cowboy Action competitors as well as nostalgic gun buffs alike. The Army model, copied from an original in our antique collection, sports a Standard Blue finish, while Cimarron’s Navy model wears a Black finish. Both models are offered in a choice of .45 Colt, .44 Colt and Russian, .38 Colt/Special, or .45 Schofield caliber, and in either a 5 ½-inch barrel or the 8-inch barrel length. In the Original Finish, antique arms enthusiasts will swear you have the “gen-u-wine” article!

This Model 1851 Richardson-Mason Conversion is an old school conversion style revolver that is made by Taylor's & Co., offering up what appears to be a percussion cap revolver that shoots .38 Special. This is a beautiful handgun that offers the chance to shoot an old school revolver with the ease of modern cartridges that have better ballistics. This handgun is an ode to the old west and the guns that made their mark on history.

PEACE OF MIND
PEACE OF MIND

Shopping at Guns.com gives you the backing of a company that is committed to your satisfaction.  And unlike our competitors, it extends beyond the buying process.  We get the FFL from your store – others make you find it, copy it, and fax it.  We have a generous return policy, and handle everything – you don’t have to go back to the store.  And our Rangemasters are here to answer all your questions about our products or process.  We're bringing a level of service to the online gun buying experience that is unheard of.

WE SUPPORT LOCAL GUN
STORES
WE SUPPORT LOCAL GUN STORES

Many online gun sales actually take away from your local community.  Instead of buying a gun that’s on your local store’s shelf, most retailers drop ship it from a warehouse in another state.  At Guns.com, if an FFL is part of our network, we sell THEIR guns first whenever possible.  That way, we’re helping small businesses in your community AND if they have it in stock, you can pick your gun up IMMEDIATELY – it’s how business should be done.

WE KEEP IT SIMPLE
WE KEEP IT SIMPLE

Most everything can be easily bought online these days.  But for some reason, buying a gun online can be complicated.  Most websites are poorly organized, don’t tell you a lot about what you’re buying, and leave you on your own to figure out what you want.  Guns.com is built to be simple – easily organized products, useful descriptions from experts, and support to guide you to the right choice.  Spend your time enjoying the gun you want, not getting frustrated with a complex website that makes gun buying hard.
