GLOCK is a leading handgun manufacturer that is known worldwide for creating pistols that are durable, reliable, and easy to use.
The company is driven by a steadfast dedication to continually improve every aspect of design, engineering, and manufacturing. With a wide range of products and commitment to consumers, GLOCK has become the weapon of choice for millions of people.
GLOCK was originally founded in 1963 by Austrian engineer and businessman Gaston Glock. Although he had no prior experience with firearms design or manufacturing at the time of the company's' first prototyping of the G17, he had extensive experience in working with synthetic polymers, something which would later prove an instrumental part of the company's success.
In the 1970s, the company began the development and production of its first military products, which included knives, grenade casings, and machine gun belt links. Then, in 1980, the Austrian Armed Forces announced that they were seeking a new, more modern service pistol to replace the Walther P38. With this announcement came a list of 17 criteria that would be required in the new weapon's design. Out of this need, the GLOCK 17 was born. Also known as the G17, it was built on a polymer frame with the company's newly-developed SAFE ACTION System, which featured three internal safeties, ensuring consistent performance alongside protection from accidental discharge.
The G17, named for the 17 criteria it met, was adopted as the new service pistol of the Austrian Army in 1983. The following year, the G17 proved capable of soundly passing the NATO durability test, and was therefore selected as the standard sidearm for the Norwegian Army as well. At this point, GLOCK was well on its way to becoming the preferred sidearm for military and law enforcement across the globe.
The first of its kind, the G17 revolutionized the pistol market. At the time of its making, Gaston Glock knew that reliability was born of simplicity and therefore worked to minimize the complexity of the gun's design. His idea proved right and continues to be a cornerstone for the company today.
In 1986, the company brought its headquarters to Smyrna, Georgia. Production and innovation endured, with the company adding several more designs to their product line over the years.
Today, more than 65% of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in the United States have used GLOCK as their official duty weapon.
With more than 50 different handguns available in several sizes, styles, and calibers, GLOCK has a gun for every need.
From competitive and recreational shooting to training, as well as hunting and outdoors, home defense, and personal protection. Products are designed and engineered with consumer needs in mind, while the company continues to deliver on their promise of providing safe and reliable handguns at an affordable price.
