The Beretta U.S.A. Corporation has issued a recall after identifying a potentially serious safety issue with their .22 caliber NEOS semiautomatic pistols. Beretta describes the condition accordingly: the handgun will still be able to fire when the safety is on and may inadvertently fire if the safety is toggled from “off” to “on”. PRESS RELEASE– The Beretta U.S.A. Corporation has issued a recall after identifying a potentially serious safety issue with the firing assembly pin of their .22 caliber NEOS semiautomatic pistols. Beretta describes the condition accordingly: the handgun will still be able to fire when the safety is on and may inadvertently fire if the safety is toggled from “off” to “on”. The company’s statement continues that the likelihood of the gun accidentally firing or firing while the safety is activated is highly improbable. There have been no injuries as a result of this mechanical error. This recall has been implemented as a precaution.

To all Beretta NEOS pistol owners: please send your unloaded pistols to Beretta’s Accokeek Maryland Service Center and Beretta will retrofit all recalled pistols with a replacement firing pin assembly. These repairs are free of charge. Reference www.berettasupport.com/neos for instructions on how to send your pistol or call 1-800-BERETTA to speak with a representative. Guns.

Not all NEOS pistols are included in the recall. Before boxing up your pistol, take a look at your firing pin assembly to determine whether your pistol features the recalled firing pin or the newer repaired firing pin. The new firing pin assembly can be identified either by a circle on the back of the firing pin that includes a red dot in the center, or by a vertical line. Both of these versions are safe for you to keep using.  For pictures and a more accurate description of which NEOS have already been repaired and approved for continued use, visit www.berettasupport.com/neos.

Though you may be tempted, you are strongly advised not to tamper or experiment with your NEOS pistol to see if it has the potential safety issue. Rather, look at the firing pin to determine whether or not your pistol is subject to this recall.
