Bullet Strikes White House Window, Suspect Arrested (VIDEO)

Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, 21, was arrested today in connection with a White House shooting incident that occurred last Friday night, which may help explain the two bullets found on the south side of the White House premises.

One bullet hit a window and was stopped by bulletproof glass while another was found on the White House exterior, according to a Secret Service statement.

“There is no specific concern for President Barack Obama’s safety,” a Secret Service official not authorized to speak on the record told CNN.

“A round was stopped by ballistic glass behind the historic exterior glass. One additional round has been found on the exterior of the White House. This damage has not been conclusively connected to Friday’s incident, and an assessment of the exterior of the White House is ongoing,” a Secret Service statement said.

The shooting took place last Friday around 9 p.m. authorities said.  U.S. Park Police and the Secret Service responded to the sound of gunfire about 700 to 800 yards from the White House.

Five minutes later, officers located a vehicle in the 2300 block of Constitution Avenue. “Evidence in the vehicle led to U.S. Park Police obtaining an arrest warrant for Oscar Ortega-Hernandez,” the Secret Service statement said.

That evidence recovered was an AK-47 that was believed to have belonged to Ortega-Hernandez.

Police have described Ortega-Hernandez as being “mentally ill” and pointed out his extensive criminal record, ranging from domestic violence to drug chargers.  Sources close to the investigation say Ortega-Hernandez had an obsession with the White House.

Now, though, he is in custody after Pennsylvania State Police arrested him, without incident, at a Hampton Inn in Indiana, PA.  Authorities say hotel employees tipped off police after recognizing pictures of Ortega-Hernandez that were shown on the News.

Ortega-Hernandez is to appear in federal court in Pittsburgh at 2 p.m. Thursday, according to the Justice Department.
