Nosler’s New Varmageddon Ammunition

Nosler’s launched a new brand of ammo, loaded and component bullets, just for the high-volume varminter.  What sets them apart from so many others is a different style of jacket construction, as well as having the option of a polymer-tipped bullet, without breaking the bank.

What’s innovative is the jacket; the copper alloy is stout and thick at the base, and tapers to a paper-thin point at the tip of the bullet; this gives the bullet the durability it needs to fly fast without tearing apart, while still insuring good expansion at close and long ranges on small targets.  The lead-alloy core is bonded to the jacket.

They are are suitable for shooting out well past 300 yards, depending on the caliber.  And they’re available in seven calibers, .17 Remington, .204 Ruger, .221 Remington Fireball, .222 Remington, .22-250 Remington, .223 Remington, and .243 Winchester, in both flat-base hollow-point and flat-base Spitzer polymer-tipped.

And they’re priced in line with or less than other quality, inexpensive bullets, like Hornady, Speer, or Sierra’s varminting offerings.  The polymer tipped bullets cost a little more, but have much higher ballistics coefficients than their hollowpoint siblings.  They’re all on the light side of the scale, from 20 to 55 grains, which is only natural for varminting.

Nosler’s reputation is great, and we have high hopes for these bullets and ammunition.  It’s Nosler, so their cartridges are all precisely manufactured and then hand-polished and inspected, but we really like their ad campaign.  Hornady already scooped up zombies, so it’s nice to a company branch out and call dibs on Mayan doomsday prophecy.

And really, what better to usher in new ammo for 2012?
