The 2012 SHOT Show Rifle: a Baron-Engraved Winchester 1892

yaThe Winchester Model 1892 is one of the world’s most well-established rifles, let alone lever-action firearms.  It’s a Western icon, not to mention, designed by John Browning.  But the SHOT Show rifle isn’t just the ’92.  This one was custom-engraved by one of the most storied and awarded houses, Baron Engraving.

This father and son team decided to follow one of the greatest styles of engraving, that of Lynton McKenzie, for its intricate whorls and contrasting edges that stand out brightly at all angles.

They even engraved the Winchester Rider, adding details, and inlaid him with gold.  They chose American walnut for the stock, and was selected for its “Figure and color.”  We can’t argue with the selection one bit.

It will be auctioned off at this year’s SHOT Show, with all the proceeds going to the Hunting Heritage Trust.  “The Hunting Heritage Trust is a charitable organization created in 2002 by leaders from hunting, conservation and shootings sports organizations. The concept for the Trust grew from the convictions of dedicated sportsmen who so strongly value our American hunting traditions and firearm freedoms that they are committed to give back to help protect this priceless heritage for future generations.

“The Trust’s mission is to provide the organization and means by which this dedication and financial commitment can be channeled into short-term action and a long-term endowment in support of innovative programs and strategic actions that will help perpetuate our hunting and shooting sports heritage.”

We’ll do our best to see this one in person, (booth 15929) but for now we’ll have to settle for these amazing photos.

This particular takedown 1892, by the way, is chambered in .38-40 and has a full 24-inch octagonal barrel.

It comes in a factory Winchester white box.
