Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission Seeking Public Comment Period for Hunter Suppressor Use

The Texas Park and Wildlife Commission is looking for public comments on a proposed rule change, to be reviewed at the Commission’s March 28 to 29 public hearing, which would allow hunters in Texas to use suppressors.

Suppressors are already legal for all other shooting activities, including taking nuisance species, so enacting this rule would ensure that hunting is treated the same as other shooting activities. While there is no resource or enforcement-related reason to prohibit suppressors, there are many benefits for hunters who wish to use them, not the least of which is hearing preservation. Using suppressors also reduces noise complaints, which has been a known reason for shutting down shooting ranges and hunting areas.
