Texas Bill to Allow Students to Conceal Carry on College Campuses is Temporarily Losing Steam

Texas law makers have stopped pushing the proposal to allow students to carry concealed while on their college campus.

Despite broad support the campus gun bill never passed and is now lacking the necessary author and sponsor. Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonia, says he will not be filing a similar proposal if re-elected. The bill’s sponsor in the House, Rep. Joe Driver, R-Garland, is not seeking re-election due to a scandal.

Despite the bill’s many co-signers there have been no other offers to carry the legislation when the 83rd Legislature convenes in January. However, with the amount of support the bill has gained in different regions of the state politicians are saying that it is likely to reappear after the election.
In the previous legislation the bill was killed last-minute when Democratic Sens. Mario Gallegos, Houston, and Eddie Lucio, Brownsville withdrew their support.
