Military Successfully Tests Missile Defense System (VIDEO)

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and the US Navy have successfully completed an FTM-16 E2a missile test. That sentence is a bit technical and full of unrecognizable acronyms, but here’s the short of it: the government launched an imitation ballistic missile and their brand-spanking-new defense missile shot it down.

With enough missiles like these spread across the US border, we should be able to shoot down any nuke heading for the US of A. That means that we have much less to worry about from countries like North Korea, even though we’re pretty sure that their nukes are fake

Lucky for us, the MDA knows how to make news that will catch the public’s eye. Rather than mentioning the accomplishment in a boring press release, they put up footage of the test on YouTube (by the way, North Korea, that’s a great way to prove that your missiles aren’t fake). The short clip includes ground level launch footage, slow-mo launch progression, as well as the explosive footage of the interception. This marks the first interception of a short-range ballistic missile over the Pacific by their standard missile.

Hopefully, there will never come a time when we have to launch one of these against a genuine target, but the basic rule that applies to guns also applies to missile defense systems: it’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it!
