Two Dead After Taliban Shoots Down US Helicopter in Afghanistan

Officials believe that the Taliban has shot down a US helicopter in Afghanistan’s Ghazni province, CNN reports. The attack occurred on Wednesday, killing both crew members on board.

A US military official said, “It is likely that the helo today was brought down due to enemy small arms and RPG fire.”

The Taliban took credit for the attack. An email from Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said, “After the rocket hit it, the helicopter came down and took fire.”

The helicopter was a US Army OH-58 Kiowa Warrior. These light and fast helicopters serve as aerial scouts that scan the battlefield ahead to observe troop movements and report the data back to the rest of the troops.

The two fallen soldiers will be honored and remembered for their bravery, and for giving their lives in service to this country.
