US Olympic Shooters Visit Fort Benning to Prep for Upcoming Games

Ledger Enquirer reports that members of the US Olympic shooting team recently gathered in Fort Benning to show off their talent and prep for the 2012 London Olympic Games. At least 10 of the world-class marksman there would be competing in the Games.

USA Shooting TeamJamie Gray, a contestant in the 10 meter air rifle, said “I feel good. “It’s going well. As long as I walk in and perform, that is what it boils down to.” That focused mentality seems to be a shared among many of Gray’s fellow Olympians. Sgt 1st Class John Olson, who was wounded in Iraq and was nominated for the Paralympic Games, said, “I’m just really concentrating on working on my performance. I know with a good performance, my score will take care of itself.”

Also present were the husband and wife team, Sgt. 1st Class Eric Uptagrafft and his wife, Sandra. Eric will be shooting alongside Staff Sgt. Michael McPhail in men’s rifle, and Sandra will be gunning for the gold in the 10 meter air pistol and 25 meter sport pistol. Sandra added, “It’s definitely a unique situation.” Let’s hope the couple bring back matching medals to go with their matching wedding bands.

With the Olympic games only three weeks away, these shooters will truly need to perfect their craft if they expect to compete on the Olympic stage and beat out some of the world’s best marksmen.
