Make Your Very Own Shotgun Shell Keychain

Eric Kenney of Shell Gunning posted these step-by-step instructions for how to make a nifty shotgun shell keychain.

First things first: gather your supplies. Here’s a list of all the stuff you’ll need.

  • Used shotgun shell Shotgun Shell Keychain
  • Super glue
  • Lighter
  • Scissors
  • 550 cord/paracord
  • Metal polish
  • Paper towel or other fluff

The first step is also the only optional step. Use metal polish to give the brass a quick rundown. It should make the metal brighter and shinier, so it’ll be worth the extra effort. Be sure not to get any polish on the plastic shell, because chemically speaking metal polish and colorful plastic don’t exactly get along very well.

Stuff the shotgun shell with a filler to prevent it from getting squished in your pocket. Kenney used a paper towel, but you could also use cotton swabs or anything else you like. When we made ours, we used about a dozen pieces of paper with the Second Amendment written on them.

Tie a square not with the 550 cord, attach it to a keychain ring, and burn the ends of the cord to prevent fraying. Stick the knot into the shell and recrimp the edges of the shell. Kenney recommends blow drying the shell to make it softer if the plastic is too stiff. Super glue the crimp, let it dry, and voila! You’ve made your very own shotgun shell keychain.
