SIG Bringing Back the M11 for Limited Run

SIG Sauer will be introducing a P228 with P229 features for a limited run, calling it the M11-A1. The M11 is the U.S. military designation used for the 9mm Parabellum P228, which is in service with various branches of American armed forces as well as police and foreign militaries as well.

The M11-A1 uses the P228 frame, which has a different style trigger guard than the current-production P229, with its squared trigger guard. Unlike the P228, the M11-A1 has a milled stainless steel slide, a feature common to the P229, as opposed to the P228’s forged carbon steel slide.

Other features set the M11-A1 apart from previous and current SIG offerings, starting with phosphate-coated internals for additional wear resistance against extreme conditions.  The M11-A1 uses the improved Short-Reset Trigger (SRT) as opposed to the standard DA/SA trigger for faster shooting as well as SIG’s short-reach trigger. The M11-A1 will come with standard SIG grips, not the new E2 grips.

M11-A1 Features

Externally, the M11-A1 will have a MIL-STD UID logo on the frame as well as an M11-A1 rollmark on the slide unique to this model SIG. The slide will also have a SIG logo laser-etched on the slide to the rear of the ejection port. Wrapping things up are a set of SIGLITE night sights.

While the M11-A1 is something of a FrankenSIG we think this is a pretty appealing feature-set, similar to the P229 Enhanced which was announced and discontinued almost simultaneously. The P228 frame without a rail and muted trigger guard will draw attention from both fans of the old-school design as well as people looking for a compact service pistol for concealed carry. In addition to the concealment-friendly design, the corrosion resistance and night sights make this a pretty sweet everyday-carry package.

Other specifications for the M11-A1 include:

  • Chambering: 9x19mm Parabellum
  • Length: 7.1 inches
  • Barrel length: 3.9 inches
  • Height: 5.4 inches
  • Width: 1.5 inches
  • Weight: 32 ounces with unloaded magazine
  • Capacity: 15+1 (comes with two magazines)

The slide has SIG’s famous Nitron finish and the frame is hard-anodized.

The M11-A1 will have an MSRP of $1,125, and we expect the real-world price to be somewhere between $800 to $900. SIG expects to start shipping these pistols towards the end of September.
