Remington updates 1911 R1 Enhanced with extended, threaded barrel

Remington has announced the newest addition to their 1911 catalog, a slick-looking R1 Enhanced with an extended, threaded barrel. With the acceptance of suppressors climbing higher and higher, this is a natural direction for Remington to expand in with their very well-received line of 1911 pistols

“The popularity of silencers is soaring,” said John Trull, Vice President of Firearms Product Management and New Product Implementation. “Shooters are looking to enhance their experience with their firearm suppressed and we are proud to offer them an excellent choice with our Model 1911 R1.”

R1 Enhanced Threaded Barrel

The R1 Enhanced Threaded Barrel is based on the competition-ready R1 Enhanced with changes that make it more suitable to run suppressed. Naturally this includes a threaded stainless steel barrel, which is match-grade and comes with a thread protector. It also comes with raised two-dot suppressor sights that extend above the top of the silencer to give you a full sight picture while running suppressed.

But the extended barrel and other features also make practical for competition in addition to its obvious ability to provide personal protection and platform to run shoot suppressed.

R1 Enhanced Threaded BarrelApart from the threaded barrel and sights this 1911is not different than the R1 Enhanced. It is built on a precision-milled steel frame and slide. The slide has forward serrations for press-checking in addition to its large and deep rear slide serrations. The frontstrap of the grooved for an improved grip and the mainspring housing has 20 line-per-inch checkering.

It has an enhanced hammer, wide, skeletonized medium target trigger and enlarged beavertail safety with a checkered memory bump. The grips are Remington’s custom diamond synthetic grips with a thumb cutout. The safety is wide and extended, and the slide stop is also checkered. The gun is not ambidextrous and the controls are on the left side, along with the thumb cutout, although the grips are cut for an ambidextrous safety if you decide to install one.

The R1 Enhanced Threaded Barrel comes with two magazines and is of course made by Remington in Ilion, N.Y. The MSRP is $1,040, and we expect real-world prices closer to $900 or even less than that.
