MG Arms Wraith Premium Featherweight Carry 1911

MG Arms is a custom shop that’s been operating out of Houston, Tex. for more than 30 years, and their specialty is lightweight firearms. They make featherweight bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles using specialized materials including Kevlar and carbon fiber, although they do know their way around fancy walnut.

This year they’re expanding into the world of handguns with the Wraith, a compact 1911 that weighs just 24 ounces. They are offering the Wraith in two lengths with your choice of 4.5- or 3.5-inch match-grade barrels. The Wraith will also be available in 9mm or .45 ACP.

It’s a good-looking bobtailed 1911 and MG Arms uses custom grip panels for it, so each Wraith that they make will have the exact grips the owner wants.

It also has a high beavertail safety, a short skeletonized trigger and skeletonized hammer and an extended safety. They do offer the Wraith with an ambidextrous safety as well, and your pick of target or night sights. The trigger is set at an outstanding 3.5 pounds.

The Wraith keeps the weight down by using an alloy frame, naturally, but MG Arms will be making 25 limited-edition 2011 Ti pistols this year. These have the same features as the Wraith but use titanium for the frame material.

MG Arms makes premium firearms, and the Wraith is no exception. These 1911s are 100 percent made in the U.S. and aren’t for the faint of wallet. The standard alloy-framed Wraiths start at $2595 and the Ti 2011s $2995.

For that money, you do get two Wilson Combat magazines with the gun and MG Arms’ “Infinity Guarantee” which is a no-questions-asked warranty that follows the gun, not the owner, forever.

If you’re looking for a premium, heirloom-grade 1911, some of the best money can buy, you might want to call MG Arms and ask them about their handguns.
