article-2297040-18D73149000005DC-82_306x255Gun Free Zone is a new free phone applications you can download for iPhone/Android/Amazon that will warn you when you are entering a gun free zone.  The newly released app is crowd sourced supported and will tell you whether your surrounding businesses, churches, schools, and other locations are gun free or gun friendly.

As the app launched this past Monday it had 3,000 users with 10,000 locations listed.  As of Friday it had 11,000 users with 25,000 locations listed.

The purpose of the applications is to let users take their business where they feel safest – “whether you want to shop in gun free zones as often as possible or avoid them altogether, this app will help you shop, play, and do business with like-minded people.”

Future app improvements to overlay other metrics such crime data, property values and graffiti are already in the works.

Creator of the app John Penden said in a statement, “I bet that if we can say, that gun free zone sign in your front window makes it 8 percent more likely your business will shut down, then the sign will be gone tomorrow morning.”

You can download the app here.
