Russia Testing Buratino 'Flamethrower' Rocket Tank (VIDEO)

“The Buratino (TOS-1) heavy flamethrower system has been used in military exercises for the first time, at a site in Russia’s Eastern Military District. The military announced that the Buratino had successfully destroyed all targets.”

Wired has a larger piece on it where they call it a flamethrower tank, a term coined by the Russian press; this isn’t entirely accurate as the Buratino (Pinocchio), a modified T-72, fires a high-yield thermobaric rocket, and has an effective range of just under two miles (3 kilometers).

The blast incinerates an area of about 330 square yards (300 meters), and the Buratino carries 24 rockets.
