Father of Slain SEAL displays "Molon Labe" Tattoo in Interview (VIDEO)
Father of a slain Navy SEAL prominently and seemingly purposefully displayed a “Molon Labe” forearm tattoo during a televised interview with Fox News yesterday.
The words inked onto Billy Vaughn’s arm are a reference to the Ancient Greeks, specifically Sparta’s role in the 480 BC Battle of Thermopylae. King Leonidas I of Sparta defiantly responded to Xerxes I of Persia’s request to lay down their arms at the battle’s onset with the phrase “molṑn labé.” Roughly translated to “Come and take,” Leonidas refused to surrender, inflicting serious damage to the Persians and delaying their march to Athens. Ultimately the Spartans were decimated, but Thermopylae served as a moral victory, inspiring both troops of old and modern day soldiers. Today the phrase has found itself as a motto of sorts for 2nd Amendment supporters, who refuse to relinquish their firearms.
Nevertheless, the Vaughns, who’s son Aaron may have been a member of the Navy’s elite SEAL team 6 which killed Osama bin Laden, allege that excessive promotion of the special operators deed and inappropriate rules of engagement made their son a high-value target to the Taliban. The families of service-members killed that night above the skies of Afghanistan are seeking further investigation into the tragedy.
