In an unfortunate series of events an unidentified school employee moonlighting as an armed security officer shot a student in Colorado, Monday.

The incident occurred about an hour after school let out at Rangeview High School in Aurora, when the security officer furnished the student a ride home. As the school employee; who is not a teacher, attempted to secure his gun in the glove compartment of his car, the weapon discharged.

The unnamed child was struck in the leg and rushed to a nearby hospital by the unwitting shooter. Police said the “significant injury” required surgery on the boy’s thigh.

Although the accidental shooting occurred in the school parking lot, police have yet to say if the school employee would face charges.  Detectives have asked for witnesses to the shooting contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP.
