Police Commissioner: 3D-Printed Guns Potentially Dangerous to User (VIDEO)

New South Wales Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione issued a warning against the use of 3D-printed guns today.

The Australian commissioner held a press conference that included demonstrations of Defense Distributed’s “Liberator” pistol. In the controlled tests, the “Liberator” was shown to be potentially harmful to the user.

“The results of the demonstration were disturbing and our worst fears were realized because it showed the effect it can have on the gun handler and the victim,” said Scipione.

The NSW Commissioner went on to address potential manufacturers: “Don’t attempt to use a 3D printer to produce a weapon. A 3D-printed gun is not potentially dangerous, it is dangerous.”

Buttressed by Australia’s strict gun laws, Scipione issued a final warning:

Make no mistake, these things are firearms. You do not need bullets to make it a firearm. It is a firearm. If you produce a firearm using a 3D printer, you are committing at least two crimes: Manufacturing a firearm and possession of an illegal firearm. We will prosecute offenders caught manufacturing, selling, owning or in possession of a 3D gun.
