Senator Ted Cruz Questions ATF Nominee, Leaves Him Tongue-Tied (VIDEO)

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) left ATF Director nominee B. Todd Jones tongue-tied after the conservative legislator questioned him over gun background checks.

The Judiciary Committee held a confirmation hearing this past Tuesday for Jones, the part-time acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives who also serves as the U.S. attorney for Minnesota. Although the ATF hasn’t had a full-time director in seven years, President Obama nominated Jones five months ago.

As the Senate began considering Jones, there were moments of high tension – in particular, when Cruz began peppering the nominee with questions regarding firearm background checks and the prosecution of felons who attempt to purchase guns. Apparently Cruz’s aggressive questioning left Jones groping for answers – none of which satisfied the senator’s queries.
