On Sunday’s 60 Minutes episode, “Survivor,” Anderson Cooper interviewed former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell.

Luttrell was one of a four member SEAL team that was tasked to kill the Taliban leader Ahmad Shahd in a 2005 mission in Afghanistan. Soon after the men hit the ground, the mission was compromised and the team fell into an ambush, CBS News reports.

Of the four-man team, only Luttrell survived. He recounts his harrowing journey during the 60 Minutes interview and sheds light on how he survived against insurmountable odds.

Lone Survivor, a movie starring Mark Wahlberg, chronicles Luttrell’s life and is scheduled to be released Jan. 10, 2014.
