Supreme Court declines to hear three new gun cases

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear a volley of Second Amendment cases today.

The court declined three new petitions — cases numbers 12-1401, 13-137 and 13-390 — without comment, which isn’t unusual for the high court. Two of which were filed by the National Rifle Association.

The first case, presented by the NRA, challenged the Texas law that prevents 18-20 year olds from carrying handguns in public, which in turn raises the broader question of does the right to keep a gun in the home extend to public places?

The latter question will  likely hit the Supreme Court next time around, Reuters reports.

The second case, also filed by the NRA, challenges several federal laws and regulations that make it illegal for gun dealers to sell guns or ammunition to anyone under 21.

The last case would look at whether or not patrons have the legal right to challenge laws that regulate the sale of firearms, more specifically it challenges a federal law that restricts the interstate transport of guns.
