Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., walked on stage with a rifle.
Reminiscent of Charlton Heston during his ācold, dead handsā speech,Ā Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) walked on stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference raising an olden long gun in the air. HeĀ presented it as a gift to Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn, who is retiring early for health reasons, ABC News reports.
The rifle was a āCourage Under Fireā Lifetime Achievement award from the NRA and as McConnell thanked Coburn for his ādistinguished serviceā as he passed the rifle along.
McConnel faces his toughest re-election bid yet and suggested during his speech that Republicans could regain control of the Senate. He also promised that if he was āgiven the opportunity to lead the U.S. Senate next year, I wonāt let you down.ā
