Man robs store with fake gun, clerk gives him fake money (VIDEO)

A Providence, Rhode Island, man held up a dry-cleaners with a potato, and the store clerk matched his fake gun by giving him fake money Monday afternoon.

The unidentified suspect was wearing a mask when he walked into the dry cleaners and pointed the potato at the clerk, yelling that he needed money. The clerk was scared the robber was using the potato to conceal a knife, but had the wherewithal to hand over a phony $20, WPRI reports.

The suspect became agitated and said he needed more money, but the clerk didn’t give him any. Frustrated, the crook finally took off.

This incident may have been the second in a series of half-baked crimes. Minutes before the robbery occurred at the dry cleaners, another robbery took place at a nearby convenience store. In this instance, the robber was also wearing a mask and was armed with a potato. The store manager chased him off with a baseball bat.

The potato bandit fled on foot and is still at large.
