Hillary Rodham Clinton, the likely favorite to become the next president of the United States, said Tuesday that gun culture in the U.S. has gotten out of control and needs to put in check.

“I think again we’re way out of balance. I think that we’ve got to rein in what has become an almost article of faith that anybody can have a gun anywhere, anytime,” said the former Secretary of State, according to The Associated Press.

“And I don’t believe that is in the best interest of the vast majority of people,” she continued. “And I think you can say that and still support the right of people to own guns.”

Clinton was speaking at the National Council for Behavioral Health conference in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

To substantiate her point, Clinton pointed to the shooting of Jordan Davis, the 17-year-old Florida resident who was killed in what started as a dispute over load music as well as another tragic incident involving a fatal shooting at a movie theater.

Clinton said that “at the rate we’re going, we’re going to have so many people with guns everywhere, fully licensed, fully validated,” which will only lead to more needless carnage over trivial matters.

“That’s what happens in the countries I’ve visited where there is no rule of law and no self-control and that is something that we cannot just let go without paying attention,” she warned.
