Breaking: Gunman opened fire on Oregon high school; Student, gunman dead (VIDEO)

Police confirmed that a gunman opened fire at a high school this morning in Oregon, killing one student and injuring another. The gunman is also dead.

It happened at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, a town about 16 miles east of Portland, at 8:07 a.m., according to a news release by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. The injured victim has been identified as a teacher, but neither the student nor the gunman have been identified.

Local police, sheriff’s deputies, medics and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to the scene. Students evacuated the school and SWAT officers are still clearing the building, local media reports.

While officers clear the school, students and parents are being reunited in parking lots near the school. Reynolds High School is said to be one of the largest schools in the state, with around 2,100 students attending today. The seniors last day was last week.

As of 1:30 p.m. eastern, no word on if any other students were hurt or how the gunman was killed.

Local media reported that the shooter used a rifle — possibly a semi-auto — but that’s an unconfirmed detail.

Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action released a statement this afternoon, saying that this is the 74 school shooting since the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut.

The Multnomah Sheriff’s Department and Troutdale Police will hold a press conference later today to release more information.
