Knicks’ Raymond Felton won’t see jail time for felony gun charges (VIDEO)

New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton, 29, agreed to a plea deal on two felony gun charges Monday morning, keeping him out of jail and in the game.

Felton was arrested last February for threatening his estranged wife, Ariane Raymondo-Felton, with a FNH model 5.7x28mm handgun loaded with approximately 18 rounds of ammunition. He faced up to seven years in jail, but his plea deal states he won’t have to spend time behind bars. He will, however, have to complete 500 hours of community service, register as a gun offender and pay a $5,000 fine, ESPN reports.

Felton didn’t accept any questions after the court hearing, but did issue a statement.

“I just want to say that I want to thank the DA for being fair to me in this whole situation,” Felton said. “I want to thank all my friends, my family especially, my fans, everybody just for supporting me and understanding the person I am.”

Guns.com previously reported that after Raymondo-Felton made the accusations, Felton voluntarily turned in himself in to the police.

Felton’s attorney, Jim Walden, issued a statement thanking the DA for focusing on the facts, not the hype.

“We want to thank the DA’s office for focusing on the facts and only the facts,” Walden said. “It’s very clear that there was no proof, that there was never any proof that he ever used, threatened or pointed this gun at anyone. He never did that. It was a bold-faced lie. We’re grateful that the DA’s office saw through that and is going to allow him to continue his basketball career without interruption.”
